Weekly Design Inspiration: Vintage Accents

Sometimes we feel uninspired by what’s in our homes, and go out in search of that next great piece. However, what if we told you that your next find is already waiting for you? This week we wanted to show some love to some previously-loved pieces that we think still have a lot left to say. Lighting, drinkware, and sideboards are all great places to start and require different levels of investment.

Light up your Life

We love vintage lights! In a good piece, you can still find the clarity in the glass and salvage any tarnished metal. Avoid pieces that have too much erosion; it’s probably not worth the price tag. Luckily, there are so many different styles to look for! Everything from Arts and Crafts, to English Cottage, to Victorian, to 70s retro; we love it all.

Heart of Glass

Glassware has typically been something that we have done away with for the time being. The space that a full serving set takes up is no joke. However, people have been enjoying the art of creating things barside. This is where we suggest that you keep only parts of the tradition alive. If space is a concern for you, consider investing in cocktail glasses, decanters, and champagne flutes. Not only are these pieces functional, but beautiful. Especially if you can find pieces that have an intricate design or detail.

Buffets and Brunches

Although sideboards are a large investment, they are also eternally chic and practical. When done right, finding a secondhand sideboard could turn out to be a piece that stays in your home for generations. When thrifting, teach yourself a bit about the construction of well-made pieces and look up the company who made it. Most pieces have the manufacturer printed somewhere on the piece.

Design Tip: Develop a relationship with your local second-hand shop. If you get to know the people there, they will keep a look out for pieces that they know you will like, such as a matching piece to the set that you love!
