Weekly Design Inspiration: Fantastic Foyers

What better way to introduce people to your home than creating a welcoming front foyer? This is where so many of our friends and family will be ushered into our home; it’s only right that it should reflect the love that you have for your space. This week we’re delving into how to create a foyer that makes your soul sing!

Freestanding Frenzy

Design is never one size fits all, and entryways are no exception! If you find that you enjoy the casual nature of freestanding pieces like benches and hook racks, then maybe this is the style for you. Since the pieces are all independent from one another, you can really play up the handmade, eclectic nature of the look. Secondhand pieces would do well here due to the rough and tumble nature of a front foyer. Accent the look with paneling if you want a durable wall treatment.

Built-in Beautiful

If you feel like you’re more of an “out-of-sight, out-of-mind” kind of person, maybe it’s best that you consider built-in cabinetry for your front room. There are few things more posh than well-done, slightly hidden millwork in the home. For accessibility and design purposes, leave a section open for handing jackets. If you don’t need so much storage, consider a dainty vanity for last-minute touch-ups.

What’s your Statement?

For those of us who have mudrooms as well as a foyer, the front entrance may be used exclusively for guests, in which case you may not need storage, but a centerpiece. We love the dramatic nature of a winding staircase and wainscoting. A statement table on display will set the mood for the home when friends enter. If you’re really looking to create a moment, throw some sculptural flowers in a vase for maximum impact.

Design Tip: If you mainly use your front entry, consider a durable rug or a statement tile. Wood will be more susceptible to wear and tear with our ever-changing weather!
