Weekly Design Inspiration: The Great Room
Although open-concept houses solve a lot of issues that come with closed-concept homes, that doesn’t mean that they are without their troubles. We hear from lots of clients that they simply don’t know how to create a layed, flexible layout for their great room! It’s hard to create a space that works for your family and guests and that can be adapted for tv watching or entertaining. Today we’re showing you different ways to ensure that your great room is working for you!
Switch it Up
We strongly believe that having multiple seating options and layering your seating is a great way to not only keep your space visually dynamic but also enables the room to serve many different purposes. Instead of opting for that big sectional that takes over the room, think about having 1-2 different sofas, and 2 different accent chair options. This helps your home feel curated over time rather than buying the set at the box store. Accent seating can be chairs, stools, benches or even poufs!
We have been drooling over this chair and this chair!
Stay for Coffee (Tables)
Once you’ve decided on what kind of seating you want in your space, think about the profiles and silhouettes of your seating. Is your couch quite boxy and overstuffed? Think about using a sleek coffee table with an open base. Do your chairs have a more traditional line? Consider a cool modern piece that challenges them. It will feel unexpected and fresh!
We’re big fans of this piece and this one!
Love your accent
Accents can go a long way filling in the gaps of a room. When dealing with such a large space, think about what makes a place feel like home. Table lamps, floor lamps, art and general accessories are easy to swap in and out and can add to the dynamic nature of the design. Try to incorporate different styles of lights just like you incorporate different styles of seating!
We have always been a fan of this piece and think that you will also love this look!
Design Tip: Don’t forget to use a rug! When dealing with open-concept spaces a rug can ground the entire room. If you find that your room is too large for just one rug, don’t be afraid to layer them for a more inviting look.
