Interior Design Tips: Create the Best Guest Retreat!

If you’re anything like us, then you are constantly on the lookout for ways to make your home more inviting to friends and family. An extra touch here or there can go a long way in making a visit more comfortable which makes hosting easier for everyone! There are so many ways to make up the perfect guest room, but we’ve listed some of our favourites below including layered textiles, storage solutions, and thoughtful extras.

Layers on layers

It’s safe to say that almost all of us have been there; you’re in a hotel with no extra blankets and you’re freezing! When you’re designing a guest retreat, use your past experiences to guide you; some people run hot and others run cold but no matter who you are, you appreciate knowing where the extra pillows and blankets are. Instead of squirrelling them away and making them inaccessible to your guests, make them a feature of the room! It’s practical but it also adds a soothing atmosphere to the room.

We love this option, but be sure to check out this one as well!

Storage for days

No matter if you are staying overnight or staying for two weeks it’s nice to have a place to put your things. No one likes living out of a suitcase especially when they are wanting to feel at home. Be sure to have storage options for guests and you! Trunks and benches are great to store extra bed linens in, while dressers and nightstands are perfect for guests looking for a place to store their clothes or wallet.

We can’t decide if we love this look or this look more!

something extra

When hosting it can be easy to forget that your guests don’t know your home as well as you do, plus they may not feel comfortable wandering around! This is why it’s great to leave little extras that make someone feel more taken care of. A water carafe on the nightstand or a nice robe in the closet are great ways to let your loved ones know that you’ve thought of them.

We’ve been eyeing up this and this for our guest spaces!

Design Tip: Any expert host can tell you that scent is a huge consideration when planning to entertain! Be sure to think about how your scents will play together in the room and consider getting complementary or matching scents where possible for things like room sprays and candles.
