Weekly Design Inspiration: Sunroom

While we patiently await the beauty that is our Canadian summer, let’s dream of a place where we can enjoy our breezy evenings: the sunroom. Many of us have taken this past year to appreciate the outdoors, so why don’t we bring some of that back into our homes? Whether your oasis is styled after sunny Spain or the Muskokas, there’s lots of inspiration to get you started.

Spanish Sonata

For some of us, a sunroom is a room that blurs the line between indoors and outdoors, whimsy and reality. One way to achieve this sense of grandeur is to play with the Spanish style, which uses large-scale architecture paired with charming details. Arches, wood, and tile are all nods to the romantic setting.

Lakehouse Loving

You could also take your designs closer to home, creating an upscale lakehouse. There are different style cues that you can incorporate to achieve this, such as including rectilinear windows and shapes. However, one of the key elements is wood; bringing the forest inside. From there you can paint or stain it to match your style.

Glass Ceiling

For those dreaming of a new build or an addition, consider letting the light in from all angles. Not only do glass ceilings warm up the room on chilled mornings, but they also provide the perfect in-house observatory for stargazing at night. It also allows the room to blend more seamlessly into the outdoors, making the space feel bigger.
