Weekly Design Inspiration: Outdoor Dining

With the warm weather within reach and the stay-at-home order in effect, many of us will look no further than our backyards as the perfect staycation destination. No matter the budget, there are always options to spruce up any backyard patio. By adding permanent fixtures like fireplaces, or more flexible options like benches and lanterns, you can easily infuse your yard with personality this summer.

Make it Cozy

If you’re planning to overhaul the entire yard this summer, consider placing a fireplace near the dining area. Our Canadian nights can get chilly so having a heat source near by for you and guests ensures a long night of drinks and laughs. We are so excited to be incorporating this feature for one of current clients who live on the water … talk about views all around!

Benchwarmers

To add a bespoke feel to your backyard paradise, switch up the seating plan with a bench. You can freshen up your existing outdoor furniture by adding a complementary bench, or buy a new set with a bench included. It may seem like a small change, but adding a bench can create a more intimate, casual vibe.

Get Lit

As with any space, we cannot forget about lighting. Adding outdoor pendants can really define the dining space, especially for those with expansive backyards. As with the benches, this creates an intimate dining setting. Not only that, it helps for wayfinding during late-night soirees and provides a flattering glow for all guests.

Design Tip: If you only have a balcony to work with, don’t fret, there are still great options! Keep the main principles in mind: diversify the pieces so that it doesn’t look like a set, add some lighting, and incorporate some warmth. There are tons of great tabletop fire features out there!
