Update on the #thecpdhouse

Many of you have reached out asking about #thecpdhouse so I thought it was high time to sit down and update you all.

Thank you for following along and for your interest in our custom home build - it really does mean so much to me.

This has been a difficult decision to make and discuss, so it’s no wonder that I’ve been procrastinating on writing this blog post.

As you know, the housing and building industry is insane and so uncertain right now due to Covid. Not only has lumber more than doubled in price, but it’s also a very challenging time to secure product. Supply and demand is impacting things in so many ways. Roof trusses seem impossible to secure and the turnaround for items to arrive is at an all-time high. Because of this, we’ve made the difficult decision to put our build on hold - for now!

Will things stabilize?? It’s really difficult to know. If anyone has a crystal ball, I’d love to borrow it! We are beyond disappointed, to say the least since we should be breaking ground right now, however, we didn’t want to begin only to be put on hold because of product delays or backorders - plus we certainly don’t want to overpay!

And I know I’m not alone in this difficult decision. So many of my clients have put their own home builds on hold until next year to see how things change over the next while. I feel so badly for the countless number of people I know who have started their build only to be delayed and very over budget.

The average turnaround for windows alone right now is 5-6 months (so that’s something you should keep in mind if you are building or renovating)

All of this goes back to my previous blog post about planning. Decisions and orders need to be made well in advance; especially now more than ever. We encountered so many delays in getting quotes alone, that I can’t even imagine what would happen if we had started to build

This isn’t a no-go scenario - just a not right now. I’ll leave you with a sneak peek of what the #thecpdhouse will be and I promise to keep you up to date on what comes over the next while.
