Weekly Design Inspiration: Summer Tablescapes

Having friends and family over for dinner is one of those everyday joys that we love! Creating a meal for those you love and intentionally spending time with them is a luxury in today’s day and age, and that is why it’s so important to make it special. There have been books and theories written about the art of table arrangements so this week we are here to provide an overview of our favourite tips and tricks from over the years.

MAKE IT MAKE SCENTS

Scents can be a touchy topic for many and this is especially true when there is dinner involved. If you choose overwhelming scents they can overpower the meal and be too confusing for the palette. Instead, choose a more decorative candle for the main courses. Candles of varying heights can also add interest and layers to the table! Then, when the bugs start to come out, have bunches of rosemary and lavender at your disposal; the scent isn’t as powerful as a citronella but it’s still effective at keeping the bugs away. Right now we’re loving the Cone Candle and the Stubby Candles from the shop!

LINENS AND LUNCH

We love the idea of adding some warmth to the table through linens! Having tablecloths and serviettes elevate your dinner setting and invite your guests to stay for a while. Paper napkins are great for quick summer barbecues but for a summer evening dinner we suggest breaking out the higher quality place settings. There are so many ways to bring in fabric elements to your tablescape whether it's through tablecloths, runners, serviettes, or slipcovers! We currently have both linen napkins and linen runners in stock at the shop!

BE EXTRA

If you want to know how to personalize the dinner table a bit more we suggest investing in the accessories. There are so many types of trinkets that can adorn the table and we suggest starting with florals or greenery of some kind. If it helps, look up what local flowers are blooming and have those set the tone for the table. If you’re looking to go beyond florals be sure to start a little collection of summery things like sea shells or perfect river stones and display them along the table or in a vase. Check out the Yevla Vase and the Paros Burnt Terracotta Vase to add some height to the table!

Design Tip: Don’t forget about the overall ambiance, which includes sound! If you want to have that something extra, consider some outdoor speakers or a water feature for some relaxing background noise.
