Weekly Design Inspiration: Soft Romanticism
Here at CPD, there’s no denying that we are hopeless romantics at heart! That’s why we love to create beautiful spaces for our beautiful clients. So much of our design philosophy is based on the idea of romanticism; it can be anything from a pattern, to a silhouette, or even a time period that makes it oh so dreamy. Today, we’re wandering through some of our favourite things that speak to the style of Soft Romanticism.
COLOURS
We love when colours balance being grounded with hints of personality! We often find ourselves gravitating toward colours that feel well-loved and have a subdued nature to them. Lately we have been loving dusty blues, butterscotch browns, and dried roses. They all seem to have a historical feeling to them while still having a cheeky edge. Denim Wash, Camel Hair, and Texas Rose, all from Benjamin Moore, are what we are loving right now.
SILHOUETTES
We know that there’s very little chance of things going back to the height of the Victorian era anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t still take lessons from them! Lately there has been a movement back towards some of the structure and tailoring that provide our homes with such character! People still love the curved silhouette, which will likely stick around for a while, but add some embellishments like skirting, rolled arms, and perhaps a high back chair or two!
DETAILS
One of the key features of any romantic home is to bring it back to a specific time period. One of the easiest ways to do this, without making it seem like a theme, is to pick specific details from a time period and incorporate. For example, there has been a return of the lampshade recently, which we love! Something like a patterned and pleated lampshade gives a nod to a style without committing so fully to the look. You could also try to find pieces like candlesticks and salt boxes for something more subtle!
Design Tip: If you want to make your place truly unique, be sure to know your history! You can look at sketches or pictures of interiors or even just study up on the way people lived and you’ll be sure to find some inspiration!
