Weekly Design Inspiration: Skirt the Subject

This week we thought that we would take a look at another trend that has come around once again; the skirt. Since the resurgence of cottage-core and the love of all things vintage people are finding a way to make skirting new again and we are in full support. We are seeing skirts on sinks, sofas and beds and we love the kitschy nature of it!

and the kitchen sink

When you think of skirted sinks you probably think of grandma’s country kitchen but we are pleasantly surprised with how people have reinvented this look. By choosing something unexpected like a modern floral or an update on a classic like gingham you are transforming the look. Pair with a modern sink of beautiful faucet and you’ve got a showstopper! It’s also a great way to hide things like pipes.

Couch potato

We have long been fans of a skirted sofa. It looks incredibly custom when done correctly and it can elongate the look of the piece. Try to give it a twist with something like piping or layers to make it unique to your space. For a modern vibe just leave the skirt plain and let it fall straight. Not only does it soften a room but it also hides any pesky dirt!

bed head

A good skirted bed reminds of our childhood and it remains fun to this day! When you aren’t afraid of mixing and matching the skirted bed is just one more way to have fun with textiles. Treat it as if it were drapery and play with different pleating styles. We also love this because it doubles as a storage solution which is great for small spaces!

We are obsessed with this look and this look!

Design Tip: Don’t be afraid to go a little bit eclectic with this look; mix vintage, boho, and rustic for a charming room that pokes fun at itself!
