Weekly Design Inspiration: Double Trouble

There has been a trend that has taken over the past couple of years and it’s safe to say that we are still obsessed with bunk beds. We’ve always known them to be a practical solution for a kid’s room or a multi-purpose room at the vacation home but lately they have been getting a well-deserved makeover and we are in love! We’re going to show you some of the best ways to showcase bunk beds in your home and we think you’ll love them just as much as we do.

cabin fever

Bunk beds are a great solution for a cabin getaway where space is tight and you don’t mind getting cozy. Since bunk beds are structural by nature you can make design choices that lean into that, such as choosing to showcase exposed wood beams. Country and rustic textiles complement the look while lantern-inspired lighting rounds everything out!

personality plus

Since bunk beds have a nostalgic quirk to them we love when people lean into the personality behind the look and go for something eclectic! This style doesn’t take itself too seriously so you can have fun decorating with vintage toys, paint, and stylized cutouts. A zippy paint colour is an instant mood-booster and a statement light fixture will set everything off! Add a wallpaper accent for a more sophisticated vibe.

tone it down

If your bunk beds are for older kids or for the guest room at the cottage you may want to go for a more grown-up look. If that’s the case then be sure to highlight the millwork and textiles as they set the tone for a more traditional look. Muted colours, dimmable lighting, and vintage accents will all help to achieve the mood.

We suggest looking at this duvet and this accent pillow!

Design Tip: Since bunk beds have the unwanted effect of feeling juvenile and crowded be sure to invest in curtains for the beds. It offers visual privacy and a blackout solution for light sleepers while allowing night owls to stay up and read.
