Weekly Design Inspiration: Power Plants

It may be snowy outside, but we’re dreaming of spring here at CPD. We love houseplants, and we cannot lie. Greenery is an essential part of any home nowadays. We’re obsessed with not only the colours, but also the health benefits that go along with our little green friends. We love plants in all forms, whether it be an installation, a feature piece, or an arrangement.

Wall to Wall

Liven up your living room with a living wall! Living walls are fantastic statement pieces that add a fun, three-dimensional element to your room. When considering how to construct one, think of what plants grow well together, how to get variations of hues, and the light exposure of where you’re looking to install it. For something a little lower maintenance, consider making a moss collage. You can keep these alive through mistings and general air moisture, and still provide a sculptural look.

Scale it!

With so many of our homes being open-concept, it’s hard to think of ways to break up the spaces and create a dynamic look. This is where large-scale plants can come in. You can go faux or natural; we all know that working on your green thumb is a fickle thing. A basket or terracotta planter adds to the look as well! There are so many different directions you can take this, whether it be tropical or European.

Stronger Together

For those of us looking for a little more variety in our lives, arrangements of many different plants can be the key to our success. Larger plant displays go beyond artistic, some can dictate the structure of your home. Wood shelving adds a touch of Scandinavian and boho. Mismatched pots and plants of different sizes are eclectic and dramatic by nature. If you’ve taken your garden one step further, you may need a propagation station!

Design Tip: Choose plants that are right for your lighting and your skill. Succulents, Aloe Vera, and Fishbone plants are all a great starting point. Work up to more advanced houseplants as your collection grows!
