Weekly Design Inspiration: New Luxury
With so many people still working from home and loving it, we are continuing to see a trend of people investing in their homes. However, you might not be expecting some of these spaces to be an everyday investment. People still see homes as their activity hub and they want to make the most of their square footage; whether that means a luxury laundry room, a wine cellar, or a state-of-the-art garage.
Luxe Laundry
We personally love the idea of making your laundry room a feature in your home. We spend so much time folding, spot removing, and air-drying clothes that we should want to enjoy being there! Think of practical features like built-in hampers, and pull-out vertical drying racks. Don’t forget about the fun designs either! Warming drawers and gorgeous canisters may not be a necessity but they make you want to go to your laundry room (at least a little bit).
Nothing to Wine About
We know that few things are as rewarding as a nice glass of wine after a long day. Now imagine walking down to your temp-controlled wine cellar filled to the brim with your favourite bottles. Now that is rewarding. Instead of using your basement as a catch-all rec room for the kids, don’t be afraid to take up some of that real estate for yourself! Think about lighting, organization, room for tasting, and record keeping. Cheers to that!
Park It
Move aside man-cave, there’s a new guy in town. Garages have long been the butt end of the joke; the places where no cars are parked due to the overwhelming amount of stuff that we own. Luckily homeowners are starting to reclaim that space and make it a design feature of their home. To ensure that this is a space that can actually house cars, you’ll first need to make sure that all of the other stuff has a space too. Go vertical and use loft-storage if you can. Paint the garage instead of leaving it as bare drywall so that the space commands the respect that the other rooms get! Top it all off with a multi-level work bench.
Design Tip: If you don’t want to invest in a luxury room choose a few items to upgrade instead! New glasses, throw pillows and soaps are all small ways to create high-end moments without breaking the bank.
