Weekly Design Inspiration: Checked Out

As we start to embrace the idea of fall coming back around once more, we cannot help but think of all of the wonderfully preppy fashion statements that go along with it. As with any season, we are bound to see trends come into the spotlight once more and the classic checkered print is no exception. We love seeing how this look can be reinvented and reworked for a new era! Whether we’re talking floors, walls, or throws we can see this popping up all over our feeds!

Checkered Past

This design has been around for years and yet we never seem to be bored of it. Checkered floors provide so much versatility! You can angle them, use high-contrast colours, play with tile sizes and so much more. One of our favourite looks is using weathered tiles with a cream variation and an earthy neutral like camel or sage. However, you can easily swap out the rustic style for small and bright black and white checks for a more classic look!

Check Twice

Few things in life seem as collegiate and cozy as snuggling up with a checkered blanket. The age-old look lends itself to the Ivy League look and we couldn’t be more obsessed. Use seasonal colours like pumpkin and hunter green to really capture the autumnal spirit. Pair the look with a variety of flea market finds for an eclectic feel or match it with dark woods and moody floor lamps for a more traditional look.

Check it Out!

If you want to test out the look without fully committing then be sure to invest in a piece of checkered art! Here you can have as much fun with the pattern as you like. Frame a piece for a more polished finish or leave it messy and undone for some casual flair. Think about how the medium of the piece will affect your overall look as well!

Design Tip: You don’t have to stick to black and white checks. Think about what different colour combinations speak to you like yellow and orange, pink and white, or cream and navy.
