Weekly Design Inspiration: Out of Sight

It’s a fact of life and we all have to deal with it: we bought so much stuff during Covid. We bought things to get ready, things to relax, things to play, and things for no reason at all. Now comes the final stage where we buy the things to store it all. Although it’s a daunting task it doesn’t have to be as scary as you think! With so many affordable and clever solutions out there, there is truly a solution for everyone whether that means storing your shoes, your TV, or all of that outdoorsy stuff you bought when you couldn’t stand to be inside anymore.

A Shoe In

Shoes are one of the best things about getting dressed. Whether you prefer sneakers, heels, or a sensible flat, we can all tend toward buying a few too many pairs and forgetting about the stuff we already own. Part of the problem is that shoes are often scattered all over the house and aren’t visible. If you have the space, invest in some narrow shoe storage options that don’t crowd your hallway. If you want to keep your shoes with your clothes then be sure to check out solutions like clear shoe boxes in order to see your options!

Let’s Hang Out

With so many houses being open concept, the problem often becomes that your fireplace and tv are in the same room. T.V.s are awkward to place and can sometimes be placed too high above the fireplace or off to the side due to the heat from the fire. In order to accommodate this consider buying an articulating arm that hides away behind the T.V. This way you can bring your T.V. down in front of the fire or swing it around so that the whole family can see.

Got You Pegged

Sometimes typical mudroom storage is just too restricting for families with a lot on the go. In order to adapt to whatever comes your way and not sacrifice on the aesthetic, consider using pegboards. You can paint them or leave them plain, add and remove pegs with no fuss, and even add accessories like shelves and hooks when you need them!

Design Tip: If you are living in a small space, open storage is not your friend. Even if the containers are cute, it adds visual clutter to a jam-packed place and it doesn’t let you use every square inch of your space.
