Weekly Design Inspiration: Game On!
With our lives being busier than ever we need time and space to unwind. We love when clients ask us to help them design a games room for their family because we know that we are helping them to create quality time for them and their loved ones. There are so many ways to go about creating a games room depending on what you like to do whether it be a game of pool, ping pong, or just a drink over a game of cards.
Cue the Pool Table
There are few things more classic than playing a game of pool or billiards with the family. Trick shots, sinking a double, or even scoring for the other team all contribute to the drama of the game. We firmly believe that a well-made pool table will never go out of style. The felt, the leather pockets, and the stately legs all contribute how you feel when you play. For a modern look, choose straight, wide legs. For those who love mid mod, choose a tapered leg and a mid-toned wood. Ensure that there is room to walk around and space for observers to watch.
Ping-Pong Pandemonium
Ping pong is a fast-paced game of quick reflexes and amazing accuracy. Not only that, but it can be incredibly stylish. Long gone are the days of flimsy fold-up tables with stained boards. We love how the ping-pong table has become a staple in many games rooms. Even if you aren’t ready to fully commit to the game, choose a table with a removable net for maximum use. Space plan for an exciting game where breakables and slipping hazards are well out of the way.
You’ve Been Served
We would be remiss to talk of games rooms without mentioning the bar that accompanies these lively spaces. We have always been in favour of designing a bar that exudes just as much joy as any thrilling game of Catan. Use materials that are fun in small doses like bronze mirrors, glass shelves, and reeded wood. We love the idea of incorporating a hidden element to these are well, whether it’s behind cabinet doors or a hinged cabinet bottom that doubles as a serving area.
Design Tip: Look for storage opportunities wherever possible. Think about the way you’ll use the space and what you’ll need storage for whether it’s cards, dice, board games, pool cues, or paddles.
