Weekly Design Inspiration: Fire Pits, Friends, and Family

Although we have loved our nights spent inside with a good book, we are more than ready to start taking the fun outside! Fire pits are one of our favourite places to spend time with our friends and family. They are one of our most-loved landscaping features that require very little upkeep and can work with any style; whether it be modern, casual, or a built-in feature.

Modern Flames

Few things in life are more satisfying to us than seeing the juxtaposition of modern pieces mixed with natural minimalism. For those of us who love nature but are city slickers at heart, this style is the perfect compromise. Use natural materials to connect the design back to nature, but don’t get overly fussy with silhouettes and lines. Stone, logs, and raw steel are all a great starting point for design inspiration!

Footloose and Fiery

At the heart of any good get together is the time that we get to enjoy each other. That’s why the casual nature of the classic chairs and fire pit setup is still one of our go-tos! Of course, there are always ways to update it like using sleek, black, adirondack chairs. If you want to enjoy a more laid-back atmosphere, consider using a sling-back chair or a lounge chair to complete the look. You can go for a traditional stone pit or a dish, depending on your preference!

Built-in Beauties

If you’re ready to invest, consider dedicating a portion of your backyard to your fire pit. A sunken pit with built-in seating feels luxurious and intentional. There are different ways to build the pit, but having shallow, cascading stairs is not only beautiful but safe for the whole family. You can use wood for a more modern, Scandinavian look or stones for the classic country cottage. Interlocking stone or dark pebbles make for a nice, upgraded ground cover.

Design Tip: If you want to have a true, wood-burning fire pit, then you’ll need wood storage. Consider integrating this storage into your design or have a shelter built simultaneously to keep the design coherent!
