Weekly Design Inspiration: Fall(ow) These Trends

The leaves are starting to turn and we would be lying if we said that we weren’t already mentally living in autumn. Every season presents so many opportunities for decor swap-outs and fall is no different. We love adding a cushion here, a throw there, and making our spaces that much more cozy as we settle in for the fall season. Of course we needed to share some of our favourite ideas with you; from candelabras to table linens, and stone, we are showing you subtle ways to spruce up your home.

Can’t Hold a Cand(elabra) to You

Candles are a non-negotiable for us no matter what season it is. However, there is something so romantic and historic about candelabras that make them feel right at home in autumn. Perhaps it’s the fact that it starts to get dark earlier, perhaps it’s because fall is often associated with so many wonderful scents. Either way, we recommend going for something that feels like a statement piece like a spindly iron relic or a robust brass heirloom. Think about where you’re putting it as well; a conceptual piece does well in an entryway whereas a traditional piece is perfect for the dining room.

Feel-Good Fabrics

So many of us know to switch out the summer bed sheets for the winter sheets once the temperature drops. However, so many of us don’t do the same when it comes to our table linens. In our chilly climate, it only makes sense to have a couple of sets of linens on hand. For example, a linen set is the most that you would want on a table during the heat of summer. Yet, for an autumnal tablescape you would do well to swap out the tablecloth and serviettes for something a bit weightier.

Stone the Crows!

We love rattan and cotton as much as the next person, but we feel that not all materials are created equal when it comes to our ever-changing seasons. Swap out some of the smaller items around the house for something that aligns with nature in its autumnal state. We love a good stone bowl or tray. It’s a way to interpret the outdoors with it still feeling authentic to the season. Extra points for anything unique like Brown Calcutta Marble!

Design Tip: When decorating for the season, it doesn’t have to just be done with overt symbols and accessories. It can be as simple as choosing pieces that reflect the feeling of the season!
