Weekly Design Inspiration: Cottagecore
This time of year, when the leaves are just beginning to change and the morning air becomes a little more crisp, many of us find ourselves looking for that extra bit of coziness. One of our favourite ways to bring that into our homes is with the cottagecore trend. As with any trend, this style has gone in and out of fashion for decades, but for many, this look has staying power.
Home Sweet Home
There are different ways to communicate this trend before guests even enter your house. For those who live in a farmhouse, half of the work is already done. If you don’t, this is where you can start to incorporate some softer, more romantic elements. Draping vines and English gardens are a great place to start in order to get that whimsical look. Natural hardscaping elements like wood, copper, and stone will ground the look.
Be our Guest
Dining rooms and kitchens are the heart of many homes, and this could not ring more true for a country, cottagecore home. Old harvest tables are a fairly inexpensive investment that will last you your whole life, as long as you treat them well. Hutches, china cabinets, and sideboards not only fit in with the rustic eclectic style, but also provide you with places to display collections and knick knacks. For a more structured finish, add in elements like wainscoting and iron fixtures.
Rest your Head
Few things are more calming than falling asleep surrounded by earthy tones and the smell of pine. Cottagecore bedrooms are all about worn, casual linens and mixing woods together. Use vintage art or botanical sketches to get the look. Found objects like chests and ladders feel intentional and yet not too precious.
Design Tip: If you live in a newer build, you might have to add some elements to give the space character. Crown moulding, wainscotting, and vintage rugs are all ways to make the space your own.
