Weekly Design Inspiration: Brown(ie) Points

As the warm weather starts to roll in, we have been spending lots of time in the garden lately and preparing the patio for summer sunsets! We know that we have been getting so much of our inspiration from the earthy tones outside and it’s easy to see why! Rich cocoa colours always make us feel right at home; whether that means snuggling up in a chair, setting the scene with some vases, or tossing a new pillow on the sofa.

Furniture

We love the idea of mixing in brown tones with our furniture! In the spaces we design we always try to incorporate items with an heirloom quality to them. Choosing pieces of furniture that have an authentic look to them instantly allows a room to feel more layered and develop a deeper history. Not only do the tones look great, but brown forgives easily when it comes to wear and tear. We love the Costa Chair for any home that has a modern beach feel, while something like the Tiny Tom fits perfectly into any English-inspired home.

Accessories

If you want to test out browns in your home without totally committing, or you already have brown items that you’re hoping to enhance, try adding some accessories! These accessories tend to be the unsung heroes of the house; the items that make a room “just work” without you realizing why. A bowl on the table or a vase in the corner are all ways to signal your colour palette without having it overwhelm the room. We’re obsessed with the Vintage Crocks and our Primitive Wood Bowl!

Textiles

We’ll take earthy tones in whatever way we can get them, but we especially love when we can use them in our textiles! Whether it’s leather or fabric, brown wears so beautifully over time and can develop such a layered look. Fabrics can really tie in different elements of the home together through using coordinating textures or colours! We currently have the Lina Linen Pillow and the Cassia Block Print Pillow in our carts!

Design Tip: Between wood, leather, and fabric, it can be hard to know how to coordinate your brown colours. It’s totally ok to have more than 1 kind of brown; in fact, we encourage it! However, you may want to pay attention to tones. For example, if you have cooler tones in your home stick to cocoa or ash colours with a cooler undertone. If your home is warmer, go for richer colours like chocolate and copper!
