Weekly Design Inspiration: Trending Texture – How to update your style with your existing decor
Everything has a texture. Matte, glossy, rough, ribbed, knit, grainy, soft, smooth. These textures give us endless opportunities to make new styles and new combinations.
If it’s been a while since you renovated or if you’re like me and wanting to make changes consider how easy it is to update your existing look by changing the textures of your accent decor. Check out the photos below for the top trending textures of 2020.
Matte ceramics are a great way to introduce a new texture combination to your style. By leaving the vase or lamp matte we are getting something a little different and something that is easy to pair with highly textured foliage like the smoke bush pictured above.
Foliage is super in style right now. Think olive branches, eucalyptus, bleached ruscus and smokebush. If your decor is otherwise matte or flat, this texture can provide visual interest and update your look.
Linen napkins or tablecloth contrast the clean lines of a modern table top. These items have been trending all year with no signs of stopping. Linen adds amazing texture without being fussy. No need to worry about ironing!
Jute rugs are all the rage right now because they can be used virtually anywhere. The typically neutral fiber is easy to incorporate into most existing decor. I love how it looks above with these statement velvet chairs.
Wicker laundry baskets make great textural bathroom additions. They can become a statement piece (just put a fig tree in it!) or be tucked away like under this gorgeous wood vanity.
Woven rugs and knit blankets in the same colour family are a great way to introduce patterns and texture without adding a lot of colour.
I cannot make a blog about textures without mentioning the all time favourite of 2020. Pampas grass. This fluffy foliage has stolen our hearts. The neutral colour and its availability in many sizes makes it super easy to incorporate in any space. I love how it pairs with this matte textured vase in the foyer above.
