Weekly Design Inspiration: Raise the Bar

With many of us able to resume our normal lives, we can also start to look forward to entertaining once again. Having our loved ones close by to share a meal and laugh together is something many of us are craving right now. What better way to impress your guests than to fix them a drink in your own home bar? Whether you have a flair for the dramatics, want to lighten the mood, or want to kick it old school, there are bar ideas for every aesthetic.

Moodiness and Mixers

If you love the dark and moody look, consider all of the textures and elements that you can use to enhance those colours. Mix and match materials like stone, wood, and metals to create a rich and dynamic look. Consider using design features such as hidden doors and dimmable lighting to really set the design off. If you’re choosing a busy pattern, highlight it in a small area for maximum effectiveness.

Lagers and Light Woods

If you’re more a cool, calm, and collected kind of person, do up your bar with elements like maple, pine, marble and glass. Try to use a dark feature somewhere to ground the space, whether that be dark hardware, dramatic marble veining, or metallic barware. Illuminated glass shelving is a great way to make the area feel brighter and longer than it is, adding to the light and airy look.

Mocktails and Mid-Century

If contemporary bliss isn’t your vibe, maybe pay homage to the lightheartedness of mid-century design. So much glassware and barware is inspired by mid-century design, so be sure to include some statement pieces as well. For this look, consider using rich woods like walnut and teak, and fun, vibrant colours like orange, green, and blue. Use gold and silver accents to complete the look and chunky hardware to finish it off!

Design Tip: Before you design your bar, pay attention to what drinks you like to make so that you can allocate the right amount of space for them. If you love white wine, consider incorporating a wine column. If you love cocktails, make sure you have enough counter space to cut garnishes and set our trays.
