Weekly Design Inspiration: Modern Cottage

Modern Cottage: a new hashtag on the block and certainly a style that I personally love. But, what exactly does it mean?

My interpretation of a modern cottage is stony exteriors with rich and moody colours, natural finishes, cozy nooks, everything woven, ceiling beams, warm woods, and layered patterns. A retreat or escape from our crazy world. A combination of both modern and traditional features that create the perfect balance. Yes, please!

We are seeing a shift within the interior design world and I love it. We are adding personality back into our homes and warming things up. And no, you don’t need to live in the country to pull this look off – add a stone pathway, add texture and interest to your walls, bring in some traditional pieces and an antique rug and boom! But please keep in mind that this look is about mixing old and new, so don’t go too far with all of the above.

I just love this nook - the more modern table with the antique frames. How cozy is this!! Don’t you just want to curl up and enjoy a hot cup of tea here.

Peg rail is another great item to incorporate into your designs and can function in so many ways. I’m all about multiple purpose; this is beautiful yet so functional.

The key with this aesthetic is to warm things up. Forget about grey and white and add warmth back into your home.
