Weekly Design Inspiration: Lodge Love

There’s few things that speak to us like a Canadian cold-weather retreat. We love spaces that make the most of the nature around us and bring it inside as well. Wood beams, stone fireplaces, and metal accents are just a few of the things that can really set the lodge look off! This week we can’t wait to show you our favourite Canadiana exteriors, living rooms, and kitchens!

The Great Outdoors

For many of us, home is where the lake is. Just because the leaves change doesn’t mean that we can’t still enjoy our lake view! What we love about a cottage look is that the exteriors are usually extraordinary in detail and scale and yet somehow don’t distract from the nature around us. Stunning craftsmanship is your friend. Porch posts, railings, and cornices all provide the depth of design that makes the style unique. A lodge home should seamlessly blend multiple features like stone, shingles, and siding.

Livin’ Lodge

Your friends and family will come to know and love this room. It’s where memories are made and where we retreat to after a long day. This is a space where you can say a lot about you and your family. If it’s a ski home, throw a few pairs of vintage skis on the wall. If this place has been in the family for generations, pay homage to your ancestors by filling the space with family photos and old photo albums. A fireplace is a must-have for us!

What’s Cookin’?

Dive into your inner country chef and design a space fit for any dinner party! Play into your home’s natural charm by cladding the kitchen in wood or create contrast with deep, earthy hues. Choose appliances that speak to the cabin feel instead of going for a more modern silhouette. Likewise, choose a cabinet face that feels right at home in a rustic setting. In a room like this, accessories are your friend! Hang up some photos and have some treats out for friends.

Design Tip: Where possible, choose authentic materials as opposed to options like veneers, MDF, and composite. They don’t tell your story as well as the real deal!
