Weekly Design Inspiration: Kitchenettes & Small Kitchens
Not all of us are fortunate when it comes to massive kitchen spaces. Some of us have limited space, whether you live in an apartment, a basement unit, or a cozy house. That doesn’t mean that you can’t have an amazing kitchen though! Small kitchens can have a massive impact when done correctly. You just have to know the tricks of the trade!
Apply(ance) Yourself
When thinking about fitting all of your appliances, large and small, into your compact kitchen it can seem overwhelming and daunting. However, even though it seems that houses keep getting bigger there is still a huge market for small appliances. Compact fridges, dishwashers, and stoves are all available for your project. Dishwasher drawers are also a great option for people who live alone and don’t want to run a full load!
Island Life
If you have the space for an island but are worried about committing to a piece let us provide you with some tips! Islands that have a furniture leg on them take up less visual space and still provide storage for things like linens and cutlery. If you like the idea of an island but might need that floor space when entertaining, look for an island with wheels or casters so that you can slide it into a corner or another room when you don’t need it.
Close it Up
Usually we love peek-a-boo moments for open shelves and exposed storage. However, when dealing with limited space consider keeping things closed up. Closed uppers and base cabinets are your friend in these situations because every inch of your space needs to be used efficiently and sometimes it isn’t pretty. Slab doors and minimal hardware also provides a clean slate for your home.
Design Tip: Don’t neglect your space! Just because your kitchen is small doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t invest in it. Still think about things like under-cabinet lighting, statement tiles, and drawer organizers.
