Weekly Design Inspiration: Gadgets and Gizmos

With every design show that passes, we see more ways that technology can be integrated more seamlessly into our lives. We love the idea that we can keep the easiness of high tech but without the look. We know that our lives are busy and while we don't want to come home to a house overrun with cords and machines, we love the ways that technology can improve our quality of life. This week we’re going over some of our favourite new tech, from appliances, to home assistants and even the little details!

Apply Yourself

We spend so much time in our kitchen, so anything new or exciting that we can get our hands on is a huge win! One innovation coming to many high end kitchens is that of integrated stove tops. If you love your gas setup, take it to the next level and install it in your countertop! Kitchens with a countertop buildup can even install the knobs on the countertop profile. For those of us who love induction, be on the lookout for companies who create invisible cooktops built into your countertop. Other items like counter-height fridges are the next big thing for families! Install it in a low-traffic area and keep kids’ snacks there.

Can I Have Some Assistance?

Whether you say “Alexa” or “Hey Google”, many of us now have an at-home assistant to help us with those pesky tasks on the weekends. The truth is that these little friends are capable of much more than we give them credit for! Many of these assistants can be integrated with other programs like your integrated speakers and your motorized window treatments. By creating an automated schedule for your gadgets, you’re actually much more likely to use them. Talk about a win-win!

The Little Things

It’s all in the details. We know that even the smallest of design features can pack a punch when done correctly. Take, for instance, the 22 System by Bocci. The redesigned outlet delivers a high style look but also blends seamlessly into the background. You can have more choice over your tech as they can be installed in so many different variations. Or consider your front door. Now, so many companies are designing fashionable keypads and locks that work from your phone! For those of us concerned with privacy, there’s high-tech glass that has a fog privacy screen that can be switched on and off.

Design Tip: Be on the lookout for different tech colours! Creams, almonds, and beiges might suit your home better than the traditional black and stainless.
