Weekly Design Inspiration: DIY Projects
Not all of your projects need to be fully custom design jobs. In fact, adding little bits of you to your home can indeed make you more passionate about your home and give your spaces a little more personality! We love spending our time scrolling through all of the inspiring projects that people create by themselves. There’s so much inspiration out there and we’ve rounded up some of our favourite ideas; everything from art to wall treatments to furniture upgrades.
Hang it Up!
Sometimes you only have an afternoon and a pesky wall that you don’t know what to do with. If you want a gallery wall or even a gallery look with large-scale frames, it can get really expensive! If you don’t want to be limited to price, size, and style concerns, just make your own! Textural art is great for a minimal, earthy look. If you love a free-spirited feel then be sure to incorporate that in your project! Dried flowers and foliage give off a charming woodland feel.
Wall to Wall
With so many homes lacking that certain something extra, we know that more and more people are turning to statement walls to add an architectural element. We love this idea because it can be customized to the personality of your home. If you live in a charming townhouse, consider adding streamlined traditional panels and crown moulding. If you love the modern look, skinny slats of natural wood might be the way to go!
Make it Your Own
For kids’ rooms and those in-between stages in life, flat pack furniture is sometimes the way to go. However, for the designer in us, we can find these styles quite limiting at times. The door styles, colours and silhouettes can clash with our vision. You can either alter the pieces professionally by getting custom doors or you can add on extras like thicker shelves, rattan, and fluted sheets.
Design Tip: Most things can be DIY’d. YouTube videos are a great source of inspo but be aware of what you can do and what is beyond your abilities. Be prepared to create testers and know that sometimes you just have to call in the professionals!
