Weekly Design Inspiration: 2024 Forecast

As we enter the halfway point in the year, we are looking ahead to the trends that are set to take the stage in 2024! We never advise our clients to design their homes based on trends, but rather to look for design inspiration that speaks to them. Today, we’re looking through some of the trends for 2024 and we would love to hear if you resonate with any of these looks! We are also going to explain how we see adapting these to our own spaces.

TINKER TAILOR

We’re all for curvy furniture of all shapes and sizes, but don’t be surprised if you see more pieces that rein it in a bit. The curves aren’t going anywhere but we will start to see the return of tailored pieces with a more formal nature to them. This can be anything from skirted sofas to wingback chairs! Tailoring can take on so many meanings but keep your eye out for anything that incorporates those extra finishes. Personally, we like a couch that has a sloped arm with some structure to it!

WELCOME TO THE SIXTIES

It’s not surprising that interior design is set to once again take a trip down memory lane and revisit the 60s. Although we have often looked back and admired mid-century modern designs, the 60s inspiration has something that is distinctly more refined and serious to it compared to the light-hearted fun of the 50s. We have already been headed in this direction (think mushroom lamps and rounded chairs) but we expect to see moodier rooms with muddy earthy colours. Our personal interpretation of the trend would be to mix-and-match; a 60s rust-coloured couch and a vintage-inspired lampshade or a 60s furniture set against a backdrop of almond white seems like perfection to us!

GO WITH THE GRAIN

After reading through the previous two trends, it might not come as a shock that darker tones of wood are once again in our good graces! Dark wood has seen a resurgence however some tones more than others; cherry and mahogany are not seeing the same popularity as wood with a cooler nature. In general, we are seeing interiors shift into a moodier palette which is part of the reason for the change. Additionally, many people are moving back into vintage pieces which happen to typically have a darker stain. We love to switch it up by having a dainty, modern silhouette paired with a traditional, darker stain!

Design Tip: As the saying goes, “everything in moderation” and this couldn’t be truer for new trends and styles. Start small, and buy a piece or two without investing fully and reflect on how they make you feel. Small pieces that have a personality include things like table lamps and vases!
