Weekly Design Inspiration: Resimercial

For many of us, life at the office will never be quite the same, and that doesn’t have to be a bad thing! As we ease back into life pre-pandemic, we can bring positive changes with us, like a more comfortable professional life. You may see your office start to incorporate these looks that we love, all in the name of corporate design’s newest trend: resimercial.

Private Office

Even though open-concept offices are all the rage, there is still a time and space for private offices. However, that doesn’t mean that they have to be the stuffy offices of old. There are ways to make these spaces more accessible, like the materials and silhouettes used. Encourage brainstorming by incorporating fun pieces like cork boards! Use pieces traditionally found in residential spaces, like table lamps, to reinforce the casual atmosphere.

Meeting Rooms

Lots of us spend entire days in meetings but that doesn’t have to be a dreaded task any more! Meeting spaces should reflect the company values. Good employers should want their employees to engage in meaningful and passionate conversation. By creating a place where employees will want to spend their time, employees will be able to focus on the task at hand. Seating and lighting will play a large part in this. Take cues from restaurants on breaking down the barriers and building connections!

Pods

Even the most interactive workplaces still need time for reflection and quiet work. For this, pods and modular sections have been increasingly popular over the years. These units signal to others that you can’t be disturbed and create a change of scenery for you throughout your day. If your place of work wants a more organic flow to the office, then consider dedicating a portion of the office to library desks and independent work spaces.

Design Tip: Not all of us have a say over how our office looks. If you want to incorporate some of these ideas into your office, inquire about what you can bring in. Items like pictures, rugs, lamps, and plants are all a great start.
