Weekly Design Inspiration: Mudroom Storage

With bustling families that are busier than ever, it’s no wonder that the mudroom is a design challenge for so many. Working with a designer ensures that innovative solutions that work for our climate, your furry friends, and day-to-day life functionality are accounted for.

Incorporating perforated doors, or doors with a mesh inlay solves a multitude of issues for families. Just because you’re battling sweaty cleats or heavy work jackets, doesn’t mean that everyone has to know as soon as they walk into your house. Perforated and mesh doors hide the mess while allowing airflow. By allowing the cabinetry to aerate, you’re preventing mold and staleness from building up. Plus, the perforation design is just one more way to communicate your design style!

Kennels

For those of you who have a fur baby in your life, this one's for you. Pet-friendly architecture is one of the new design frontiers. By placing a kennel near the door, it’s less likely that your pup will track mud throughout the house before you can clean them off. The designated nook also keeps pet beds and pillows out of the way to promote a more streamlined look.

Whether it’s signing permission slips or paying bills, paperwork is always a part of our lives. It’s a necessary nuisance that requires our attention. By designing a space to sort through it, you are helping everyone in the family to stay organized, while not sacrificing the overall style of the space.

Designer Tip: Don’t forget about lighting! The mudroom might be one of the first spaces that you or your guests see. By highlighting the cabinetry with recessed, angled, or tape lighting, you are creating an experience for those who enter.
