This home was a new build, so it was great to be able to make changes to the floor-plan and customize the space right from the beginning. All selections were chosen to suit the clients aesthetic; the hardwood floor stain was a custom mix and they were stained on site which allowed us to find the perfect colour. The walls throughout were painted Stonington Grey by Benjamin Moore. This home has nice big windows throughout which was lovely as it provides so much natural light.
The kitchen cabinets were upgraded by extending them all the way to the 9’ ceilings.
The advantage of being involved from the very beginning is being able to plan all the little details; such as which side of the island should have electrical.
The home was completely open concept, which is a dream for entertaining. The living room fireplace was painted out white to match the kitchen and stairs and a lovely white penny tile was used for the surround. All windows throughout the home boast beautiful custom drapery which is not only functional but equally beautiful. In my opinion, a room isn’t complete until it has the perfect window treatment.
The Master bedroom is a generous size with a large window which provided the clients with tons of natural light. They wanted the room to be relaxed so I kept the pallet soft and neutral with creams and greys. Actually, I pulled that entire colour palette throughout the main floor to keep it bright and consistent.
All 3 bathrooms were completed using one of my favourite tiles; subway. Although I used subway tiles in each bathroom, I switched it up by doing a different pattern in each. The Ensuite was completed in a herringbone pattern, the main bath in a basketweave pattern and the basement bath received a classic subway pattern. Light grey grout was used in each and was the perfect touch to ensure the patterns stood out. Because I didn’t love the hardware options available from the builder, I switched out all the vanity knobs to glass.
Speaking of options, I also had the builder leave out all light fixtures throughout the home. I knew that we would upgrade them, so they provided the homeowners with a small credit, which we then used to purchase lighting throughout.
The homeowners wanted to have a finished basement, so I worked with the builder to customize a floor-plan; adding a family room, guest bedroom and bathroom. Because of the walk-out, it doesn’t feel like a basement at all.
