For many, the hallway is merely considered a passageway, much less as a room in its own right. This is unfortunate, as hallways are wonderful opportunities to create a special and unexpected moment in your home. Whether you're in the planning stages of building a new home, or whether you've inherited your hallways, I invite you to look at these spaces with new, inspired eyes.

The excitement of a new build brings countless possibilities! Imagine your hallway running along an exterior wall, allowing glorious natural light to flood in, creating a sense of openness and offering a stunning view. Consider casing your doorways in unexpected materials or designing uniquely shaped openings to add a touch of drama. If you’re lucky enough to have high ceilings, be sure to consider a barrel vault, skylight or adding exposed beams. The possibilities are truly endless.

elevating the existing

If you have plain and featureless hallways, don't fret; there are countless ways to make them come alive. Try adding an interesting floor material or pattern, or use applied mouldings or wallpaper to create depth and dimension. To infuse light and a sense of expansiveness into a small, narrow hallway, try installing mirrored panels or using glossy, reflective paint on the walls and ceiling. For a dramatic, moody effect, paint the walls dark and add distinctive ceiling lights. Creating a gallery wall or displaying large-scale art can transform a long, bare hallway, providing visual interest and something beautiful to admire.
