Weekly Design Inspiration: Eat it Up!

Many of you consider your dogs as family members rather than pets. With the popularity of doggy daycares and dog-friendly cafe treats, it’s no surprise that you also consider your fur babies when designing your homes. For some families, dogs are a mainstay in their lives; therefore the design can include more permanent features that accommodate their pets, while others may be looking for a more flexible solution. No matter your situation, you want your dogs to be happy!

Mudroom Madness

If you love your furry friend but don’t love how messy they are, consider putting their feeding station in an easy-to-clean area off the beaten path, such as the mudroom. This solution also works for those of you who need industrial-sized dog food bags nearby. To keep a clean look in the space, consider allocating one of the drawers to house the bowls so that you can neatly tuck them away.

Slobs and Slabs

Since you spend so much of your time with your dogs, it’s only natural that you would want them close by the dinner table. For that reason, you may want to consider designing a space for them in the kitchen. By choosing an area, such as the outside of the kitchen island, you are keeping the area close by for refills while also keeping them out of the way while you’re cooking. Bonus points for installing a bowl filler in the niche!

Bowl-a-rama!

If you don’t have the space for a built-in feeding station, don’t worry! With Etsy and so many other local shops, there are loads of unique, personal, and stylish bowls for you to choose from. Style the area with a cute dog bed or some floor pillows nearby, and you’re good to go. This option is great for those in smaller or shared spaces!

Design Tip:  If you are designing a built-in option, consider the ergonomics of your pet. Small pups won’t be able to reach a taller drawer, and older, larger dogs might have trouble bending down to eat.
